Toning and balancing
Cedarwood oil (Cupressus funebris) originates from China. It is extracted from the wood of the evergreen shrub by steam distillation. We also use the Virginian variety of cedarwood oil, which comes from Juniperus virginiana.
Cedarwood has a pleasant, balsamic and woody aroma and is used extensively in perfumery. The Chinese variety of the oil is intensely smoky. Aromatherapists believe that cedarwood has a sedative and balancing effect on the nervous system. It has been used in meditation to relax and harmonise the mind.
This ancient, antiseptic and astringent oil tones and tightens the skin. These qualities help to balance and clear oily skin conditions. It can also be helpful for scalp seborrhoea. The Ancient Egyptians used cedarwood oil in the mummification process.
