Sweet, floral and slightly wood fragrance
Orris oil is an essential oil derived from the elegant and delicate irises. It is used in perfumery for it’s sweet, floral and slightly woody fragrance.
Iris is a species of flowering plants that takes its name from the Greek word for a rainbow, Iris.
Orris root was used in the 18th century as an ingredient in wig powder. It has been a popular fragrant ingredient in face powders and dusting powders ever since. Orris root powder is made from the dried rhizomes of the iris plant. Orris absolute, one of the most expensive perfumery materials in the world, is also made from these roots. Orris absolute is sometimes used to build violet notes in perfumes. When fragrances smell slightly like powder, they may contain orris.
